Jimi Olaghere

PATIENT IN RESIDENCE & PATIENT ADVOCATE ADVISOR

Jimi Olaghere serves as a Patient in Residence and is a Patient Advocate Advisor for NV Therapeutics.

A successful businessman and entrepreneur, Jimi is a pioneering CRISPR gene therapy recipient and passionate advocate for advancing access to genetic medicines. Born with severe Sickle Cell Disease, Jimi endured decades of debilitating pain, frequent hospitalizations, and life-threatening complications before becoming one of the first patients in the world to receive experimental CRISPR-based gene therapy in 2020.

Following his life-changing treatment, Jimi has dedicated himself to raising awareness of genetic medicines and advocating for greater patient involvement in therapeutic development. In 2024, he became the first person with Sickle Cell Disease to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, and in 2026, he completed the London Marathon - demonstrating the transformative potential of his gene therapy.

As NV Therapeutics’ Patient in Residence and Patient Advocate Advisor, Jimi brings his unique perspective directly into the laboratory, helping connect scientific innovation with the needs and experiences of patients.
