Donald Kohn, M.D.

Donald Kohn, M.D. is a Physician and Distinguished Professor of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles Broad Stem Cell Research Center in Los Angeles, California and a scientific co-founder and advisor of NV Therapeutics.
Don serves as the Director of the Human Gene and Cell Therapy Program of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He is a board-certified, pediatric bone marrow transplant physician with more than 30 years of experience. He performs laboratory and clinical studies of gene therapy for blood cell diseases, especially primary immune deficiencies and hemoglobinopathies. His research is focused on developing improved methods for adding or editing genes in human hematopoietic stem cells and evaluating these approaches in early phase clinical trials. He is the sponsor of six investigator-initiated INDs for clinical trials of autologous transplant/gene therapy for genetic diseases and pediatric HIV/AIDS, and co-founded Orchard Therapeutics in 2015. He is a past President of the American Society of Gene and Cell Therapy and was the recipient of a Distinguished Clinical Scientist Award from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.
